Just in case y’all haven’t seen the commercial…

Hilarious.  I love the part where the big white family sits around carving a turkey in front of the commemorative plate.

keep informed

The only thing sexier than a wordnerd, is an informed wordnerd.

So, as I hope most of you are doing, I find myself reading a lot of political news recently.

Here’s some interesting/horrifying/unbelievable stuff:

John McCain has missed 63.8% of 110th congress votes.

He has missed votes about Immigration reform, war funding, and foreign intelligence.  When he has voted, it’s been to say NO to increasing funding for Children’s healthcare.

(You can find out who has missed what votes and who has voted for what here.)

Sarah Palin belongs to church who thinks they can “pray away the gay,”

that is, Sarah Palin’s church is promoting a conference that promises to convert gays into heterosexuals through the power of prayer.  And, of course Palin has no opinion about this.

Sarah Palin constantly talks about how great she is for not supporting the “bridge to nowhere” But Palin originally supported construction of the bridge, which would have linked the city of Ketchikan with its airport on sparsely populated Gravina Island.

“I’m not going to stand in the way of progress that our congressional delegation — in the position of strength that they have right now — they’re making those efforts for the state of Alaska to build up our infrastructure,” Palin said during a debate shortly before her 2006 election as governor. “I would not get in the way of progress of this project or other projects they’re working so hard on.”

That’s all for today folks.  KEEP INFORMED.

birthday.

January 14, 2008 · Leave a Comment

It’s almost my birthday.

I’m gonna be a hundred.

Ok, ok, I’m not gonna be a hundred, but I am about to begin a new year.

Traditionally, I do not make new year’s resolutions, and instead wait until my birthday.   This gives me a bit more time to sort through everyone else’s already broken promises to find myself something attainable.  I am unsure what I want to do for myself this year.

Last year, I made the promise of health.  Those who know me know that my feet don’t work very well, and I was determined to figure out the cause before the end of the year.  Well, I went to a bazillion doctors, and now not only do I still not know what is wrong but my knees, hips and back are now added to the painfully functioning body part list.  So, I will not promise myself a cure this year.  This is obviously not within my control.  Instead I have decided on two resolutions:

 1) Be grateful for what I have

2) Stop trying to control things over which I have no control.

So, with that, as of Saturday, fuck you legs!  Who needs ya?  Stupid feet!  Yer in charge.  I can only do my best to breath and move at my own pace.  Take that back!  I win!

oh yes, and happy new year, and all that.  hope you are all having a nerdy time of things.

nerd on a bike.

June 11, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Yes, it’s true. I have purchased a new bike! It’s pink and white and more importantly, it works! So now, I am not just a wordnerd, I am a wordnerd on a bike. I rode around for a million hours yesterday and boy does my butt hurt. I had lofty plans to ride around today but after 15 minutes, my butt hurt so much I had to take a break.

Oh well. In other news, I’ve been buying baby clothes. A workmate is having a baby who will now be wearing clothes that cost more than mine. There is nothing cuter than a baby with a little frilly dress and a giant diaper butt sticking out the bottom. Baby’s have a lot in common with a hippo in a tutu.

Also, we are having a party! A huge party for Pride in two weeks. It will include such games as, “who brought the gayest picture ever?” and I will be making rainbow sprinkled cupcakes! My roommate may even wear pasties. It promises to be a prideful, awesome event.  (Oh yeah, and super nerdy!)

It’s been too long!  What’s up with me?  My friend J. and I are hard at work on a T.V. pilot.  Afraid I can’t tell you what it’s about until it’s in production, but rest assured it’s hysterical.  Also I’ve been working hard to get my girl feeling better after a horrible food poisoning episode.  It was good to take care of someone I love but I will say food poisoning has to be one of the grosser afflictions.  I took today off to do nothing.  It’s been awesome.  I cannot wait until school starts and I can be nocturnal.  I’m just clearly meant to write all night and sleep all day.   And with that… goodnight.

survival

I survived the AIDS Walk.  I am incredibly sore, but it is done.  In fact, all the folks who came along for the walk have called or texted me separately to let me know that they too are sore.  In other news I am dying my hair as I type.  Does it look redder?  I am also considering the baking of some cinnamon cookies.  I made up the recipe last weekend and the cookies were hailed as the “best ever” by the roommates.  As a result they were all eaten up before the girl got home from Vegas.  I’m pretty sure she deserves cookies so I should probably make some.  How’s that for commitment?  On the walk, a friend and I decided to write a pilot for a sitcom.  It promises to be awesome.  More on that to come.

It began with granola…

March 24, 2007 · Leave a Comment

My best friend M and I have had a lovely day.  It began with granola.  Afterwards I went on a walk alone and ended up shopping and shopping.  I am now the proud owner of a sweatshirt with short sleeves with music printed all over it.  Also a yellow tank top and a grey tank top.  Hooray!  We are in a huge shopping area.  There is Sephora, H & M, the Gap, Forever 21, and others within half a block.  There is also the cable car and Bart and Muni right downstairs.  We’ve picked a good hotel it seems.

Later on in the day we went to The Japanese tea Garden in Golden Gate Park.  We drank amazing green tea and ate lots of cookies.  We then went to Shakespeare’s Garden.  I had decided that it was not important to seek out this place because this is where, seven years ago, I was once proposed to.  But then, there it was, right in front of us.  We did not sit on the same bench.  Across from the bench where we did decide to sit, a nerdy couple was planning a wedding.  Later, when exiting the park, we asked the wedding planner (I couldn’t resist) for directions.  M confessed afterwards that she has not been sure whether she was the bride or the planner.  I had decided that she was the planner because she was the one answering questions, not asking them.  Also she was largely pregnant (how presumptive I am.)  M thought she was just chubby.

When we found our way out of the park, we also found ourselves a few blocks from where I used to live.  We sat and had a giant California burrito which I should be digesting for the next few hours.

All in all, I definitely have a lot of memories I’m visiting here as well as friends.  I suppose I’d better take a shower before the Baroque concert I am being dragged to.  I mean… hooray!
